Sapphire Princess entered service in May 2004. Constructed by Mitsubishi in Japan, it is a sister to the Diamond Princess (March 2004) and part of the Grand Princess class.

The 2,670-passenger ship had a major renovation in January 2012. As a result, it has an updated atrium, the adults-only Sanctuary area, two added dining venues and a large outdoor movie screen.
